Canada immigration Tests

Universal tests to assess your language abilities for Quebec & Canada immigration

"TCF for Quebec" (TCF-Q) and “TEF for Quebec” (TEFAQ) are French proficiency tests that meet the standards of the Quebecoise Ministry for Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion (MIDI) and justify your level in French when applying for immigration.

TCF-Q test has been conceived by the French Commission for international matters in the field of education (FEI), while TEFAQ test has been conceived by the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIP). Both tests are equivalent in difficulty. For the latest official regulations concerning immigration to Quebec, go to the MIDI website.

For immigration and citizenship application procedures, the Federal Government of Canada requests proof of the applicants’ linguistic knowledge of French. The TEF format that applies to these procedures is TEF Canada. This test is also valid for immigration to Quebec.

What are the tests?

The TCF-Q and TEFAQ examinations consist of 4 tests, among which 2 are compulsory (listening and speaking) and 2 optional (reading and writing). You can take the two optional tests to win more points. For the assessment of proficiency in French, B2 is the minimum level at which points are allocated. All 4 tests are compulsory in the Canada immigration version of the TEF (TEF Canada).

Tasks are organized in an increasing order of difficulty. Tests are evaluated on a scale with 7 levels, from level 0 (most basic competencies) to level 6 (complete fluency). This scale relates to the 6 levels (A1 to C2) of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and to the 12 levels of the Canadian Language Benchmarks.

Test results are valid for two years. You can take these tests as many times as you wish, but you must respect a 30 days delay between two tests.
